Media Statement | Arab Culture Association Concludes Series of Seminars on War for This Year

The Arab Culture Association concluded on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, a series of intensive seminars aimed at contributing to the development of our handling and mechanisms for dealing with the political reality imposed by the war on our people in various places of residence. Part of these seminars were organized in partnership with civil society institutions sharing the national concern and were attended by hundreds of lecturers and participants in a series of digital and face-to-face meetings.

The series began with the first seminar in partnership with several active institutions on issues of incitement and freedom of expression, involving Adalah - The Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel, Hamleh Center, and the Arab Youth Association - Baladna. Weeks after the seminar, the Association organized a seminar presented by the human rights lawyer, Abeer Baker, aimed at providing the audience with legal tools and mechanisms to deal with incitement.

Moreover, during November, the Association held two additional seminars. The first addressed the issue of academic students in Israeli universities and the political persecution they face. The seminar was presented by Yousef Taha, head of the Joint Committee for Student Blocks in Israeli Institutes, and lawyer Adi Mansour, who handles the pursuit of students at Adalah Center. In addition to the presentation, the speakers discussed ways to confront these persecutions, especially those expected to intensify when students return to their studies at the beginning of the next year.

The fourth seminar in the same month was presented by lawyer and comparative international law researcher, Dr. Fadi Khoury, titled "Between Human Rights, Rule of Law, and Emergency Law." He attempted to provide a legal perspective on the state of emergency enacted in the country following the declaration of war, which is used to suppress Palestinians in all their places of residence.

At the beginning of December, the Association, in partnership with Kayan - Feminist Organization, organized a seminar titled "The Reality of Palestinian Women in the Shadow of War." The seminar was presented by the Association's general manager, Ms. Nasreen Tabri, who discussed the situation of Palestinian women during this period, especially in the Gaza Strip, the arrests, and the incitement against them. Tabri pointed out during the meeting that the impact of war is harsher on women and children compared to other societal groups.

The Association also organized, in partnership with civil society institutions, Mada al-Carmel – Arab Center for Applied Social Research and Arab Youth Association – Baladna, an academic and face-to-face conference at the "Majdalani" hall in Haifa, on December 15, 2023. The hall witnessed the attendance of about 150 participants from various areas in the Palestinian interior.

In the final seminar, the Association hosted media trainer and lecturer at Birzeit University - Media Development Center, Saleh Masharqa, who presented questions about publishing ethics in the context of the genocide faced by our people. Like its predecessors, the seminar raised several questions, this time in the field of media and the use of social media platforms to serve the Palestinian narrative. The Association will continue next month with a series of activities related to war and genocide, addressing several topics, such as targeting the health sector during the war, the role of universities in building global public opinion, and the possibilities of employing artificial intelligence to spread the Palestinian narrative, hoping that this will contribute to ending the aggression against the people of the Gaza Strip. The Association will continue its efforts to raise humanitarian, social, and political issues through organizing seminars and conferences, aiming to shed light on our issues and contribute to raising awareness towards them and developing working mechanisms for the upcoming stage to raise the national and ethical voice against war and in support of the life, dignity, and justice of its people and cause.
